A Pandemic Journey
In April of 2020 I joined the Covid-19 Journal Project through the Wisconsin Historical Society. I had started a series of 6" x 4" mixed media pieces, on masonite, as a way of processing the fear I was feeling about the pandemic. I initially submitted the project to the Historical Society on June 17, 2020 and continued to create the pieces until May 11, 2023 when the Federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency declaration was ended. This followed the World Health Organization which had declared an end to the emergency phase of the Covid-19 pandemic on May 5, 2023. I created a total of 77 pieces during the 3 years of the pandemic.
I allowed myself one hour to work on each of the pieces. I included the date, worldwide/national/Wisconsin and Brown County statistics regarding identified Covid cases and deaths at the time. I also include a little information about what was going on in the world, or in my world, on the back each day that I create a piece.
