Untitled. Mixed Media on Paper. 30" x 22" This piece could be entitled, "Processing." The central figure sits in gyana mudra, anjali mudra, and an aura charge position inside a mandorla which is the Italian word for almond. In art mandorla is used to describe the almond-shaped enclosure formed by 2 overlapping circles which is sometimes depicted around Christ or the Virgin Mary. In many customs and spiritual beliefs, a circle represents the Divine life-force or Spirit. It is symbolic of vitality, wholeness, completion, and perfection.

St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton, WI. Mixed Media on Paper. 30" x 22" This is a piece from 2017. We walked the old Stations of the Cross with its now empty grottos. I noted the crows cawing in the trees above which made my mind wander to Bruegel and then birds in Northern Renaissance paintings. Birds can connote both the human and the divine spirit through their soaring freedom of movement, and their linking of earth and sky. Birds can represent our souls or stand for wisdom and the power of thought. The Christian crosses on the grave markers above were visible from our lower vantage point on the nature path along the river. The branches are between the viewer and the cross. The colors of the chakras start in the foreground with red leaves, to the orange middle ground, to the yellow leaves, green stones, blue and violet sky and finally the white clouds.
